The Basics of Black Skin Care

It is a well known fact that brown skin, most notably the skin of African Americans has a compound known as melanin. This compound helps to shield the skin from all the damage that ultraviolet sun rays can do to a persons skin. This basically gives the skin a much better look and it does not feel the effects of aging quite the same as lighter skin with less melanin is it. However, that is one one side of the equation and as people get older, regardless of the presence of certain compounds found naturally in the skin, there is still care that needs to be taken. Here are a few things that should be taken into account with black skin care.

First off, as African Americans age, the skin can change dramatically in texture. While there is little you can do to stop yourself from aging, there is something you can do to help your skin remain soft and smooth. In these cases, black skin care will typically call for moisturizers. These will offer some relief, but those results will be fairly temporary. In these cases, exfoliation is often recommended for more long lasting results. In these cases you can use a topical product, certain peels or in some cases you can also use microdermabrasion to achieve a less rough textured skin complexion.

Another black skin care tip that is more for women then it is for men is the formation of dermatosis papulosa nigra. These basically are small non cancerous growths that tend to pop up as a person with dark skin ages. While these growth are totally benign, they seldom need treating. However, they can sometimes cluster and look, to varying degrees somewhat unsightly. In this instances, it is best to see a doctor or a dermatologist to have these growths removed if you wish.

As far as black skin care goes there are also issues with changes in skin pigmentation that can typically be treated with a topical creme and of course sagging as well. This could be a little more problematic to deal with requiring things as simple as dermal fillers and as complicated as face lift surgeries.
